We have an ice cream shop around the corner from us, it drives me crazy. Every time we pass it, the girls launch themselves at the shop, throwing the bike to the right and usually into other cyclists or people trying to enjoy their own ice cream cones. It seemed only natural then, that they would end up with their own ice cream shop at home.
I found these lovely fabric ones from HABA. They have a velcro spot on the top and the bottom so that you can stack the scoops on the cone. My eldest loves this and typically ends up with four scoops balancing like the leaning tower of Pisa.
My youngest, who is always the shop-keeper, sits behind the register, thrilled with the sense of power she feels. She writes down the cost on the little board that came in the set, and if we don’t ‘play right’ she expels us from her shop. ‘No shop for you,’ she announces tersely, her finger pointing to the exit, she sounds alarmingly like the Soup Nazi (and I swear I’ve never shown her Seinfeld!)
Made by HABA, which historically produces thoughtful, eco-friendly toys (although I’m less confident after our HABA Kullerbu experience), I’ve just discovered these are made in China and I cannot determine whether it is from natural products. The HABA website says felt and fabric, but I really doubt if these are natural fabrics or wool felt. The feel suggests synthetic.
I know my girls love playing with these but I’m less enthralled. I think there must be better quality toy ice cream sets out there, so I will keep searching and keep you posted!
